Application Process:
The following is a brief overview of what you can expect in the application process.
Making the right match between a Big and Little is a very important part of the mentoring process. All prospective volunteers are carefully interviewed, and a thorough inquiry is done to ensure that they are reliable, caring adults and are well suited to the responsibilities of being a mentor.
All Big Brothers and Sisters are required to complete an application form including the names of three or four references. A proven method of determining the applicant's moral character, reliability and availability is to ask the people who know him or her well. A police check is also done on all volunteer applicants. In this way we can say to the parents of our Littles that the men or women who will befriend their child are sound individuals. They can trust the person we are assigning.
A comprehensive interview will be conducted with the volunteer in order for the caseworker to learn more about the Big Brother and Sister in an effort to ensure the best match with a Little. The Screening and Matching Committee, comprised of the caseworker and six (6) volunteers from a variety of backgrounds, meets and reviews the applications matching the volunteer and the child based on suitability. A meeting is arranged by the caseworker and you are introduced to your Little Brother/Sister. Now the fun begins!
After the successful match is made, a caseworker at Big Brothers/Big Sisters will stay in touch to provide any help they can while the Big and Little establish their friendship.
